Dr. Melloney Erwin is a certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist (CCRT)

The primary goal of rehabilitation therapy is to strengthen the soft tissue (muscles), increase movement, and optimize the quality of life for dogs. Rehabilitation therapy is used to treat painful and/or chronic conditions such as: Osteoarthritis, Hip Dysplasia, Degenerative Joint Disease, Intervertebral Disc Disease, Fibrocartilagenous Embolism (FCE or Spinal Cord Disease), Vestibular Disease, neurological issues, ligament and tendon strains and tears, acute and chronic ear problems, post-surgical and/or post-trauma patients.

Rehabilitation therapy can involve various forms of treatments, including acupuncture, spinal manipulation therapy, joint mobilization, specialized exercise programs, water and laser therapy.

WHAT IS LASER THERAPY?

Laser therapy is healing using light. Laser stands for “Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation”. It is a painless, therapeutic stimulation of tissues with a low energy laser that is designed to promote healing and provide pain relief. The laser works to increase circulation and the energy and oxidation of/to the cell, release growth factors, and stimulate stem cells in the area. The laser also decreases swelling, improves blood/lymph flow in the tissue and promotes the healing of the wound. It provides pain relief by promoting endorphin release (the body’s feel-good hormones).

Unlike other laser therapies available, the “cold” laser used in Dr. Erwin’s practice is designed to specifically target the affected tissue using the optimal amount of direct energy.
